In the ten years Russet worked as a prosecutor she helped establish a mental health docket and revitalize the drug court docket in Loudoun County, Virginia. Through programs like these, she has helped prioritize rehabilitation, save taxpayers money, and most importantly, save lives.
Russet is committed to ensuring that the criminal justice system is fair to all parties, regardless of their background. She believes that the criminal justice system should never treat an individual differently based upon their gender, race, creed, national origin, disability, whom they love, or anything else that defines them. She strongly supports evidence-based solutions to ensure individuals transitioning from prison back into society are provided the best opportunities and support to reduce recidivism and to help ensure that individuals who have paid their debt to society have the resources needed to become fully engaged members of that society.
Russet is a strong believer in fully funding state and local law enforcement agencies to support their ability to recruit, train, and retain the absolute best and brightest individuals to ensure the best and safest outcomes for all parties.
